James Tunney, LLM, is an Irish Barrister who has lectured on legal matters throughout the world. He is a poet, a visual artist, and also author of The Mystical Accord: Sutras to Suit Our Times, Lines for Spiritual Evolution. Here he proposes that one need not lose one’s sovereign autonomy to a guru or spiritual leader in order to pursue an authentic mystical path. The path involves learning to distinguish the true Self from false images of the self. Ultimately, it involves the cultivation of compassion for both oneself and others — leading to transcendence.
