James Tunney, LLM, is an Irish barrister who has lectured on legal matters throughout the world. Here he shares his knowledge of the philosophical tradition of personalism – a movement that has touched many other disciplines and that emphasizes the unique rights and responsibilities of personhood. He points out that there are counter-veiling tendencies in society that would treat humans more as machines, or as animals, rather than as persons. There are also movements that would grant personhood to robots, animals, and even deities. He expresses his concern that individuals not give away their personal sovereignty.
