Influence of the Global Geomagnetic Field in an Online Psi Experiment | Dean Radin

Dean Radin, Chief Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) explores how geomagnetic forces affect peoples’ psi performance through an online map dowsing experiment.

From July 2002 to December 2018, an estimated 120,000 people from around the globe took part in IONS online map dowsing experiment. Participants were shown a 300×300 grid and asked to predict the location of a spot that would be immediately generated by the webserver. Each trial was then given a Z-score determined by the average values and standard deviation.

Despite its virtual nature, the experiment tested participants’ ability to determine their spatial orientation. There is increasing evidence to support that humans have an innate sense of the Earth’s magnetic forces, which could play a role in determining one’s spatial positioning.

Data analysis revealed that the Z-score was in the direction that researchers predicted but was not statistically significant. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that there is a positive correlation between an individual’s performance on the test and the global geomagnetic field (GFM) flux that day and the three days prior. These results suggest that people may be sensitive to GFM flux in a way that affects map dowsing performance.

Presented at the “62nd Annual Convention of the Parapsychological Association” on July 4, 2019, Paris, France; program chaired by Ramses D’Leon. Download the Abstracts at https://www.parapsych.org/articles/37/483/2019_pa_convention_abstracts_of.aspx

The Parapsychological Association is an international professional organization of scientists and scholars engaged in the study of psi (or ‘psychic’) experiences, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, psychic healing, and precognition. The primary objective of the PA is to achieve a scientific understanding of these experiences.

A longer version of this convention video, including the Q&A period, is available to PA members-only at parapsych.org. There is a level of PA membership for everyone interested in the scientific and scholarly advancement of parapsychology. Learn more at: https://www.parapsych.org/join_the_pa.aspx
