James G. Matlock, PhD, an anthropologist, is coauthor (with Erlendur Haraldsson) of I Saw a Light and Came Here: Children’s Experiences of Reincarnation. He is a regular contributor to the online Psi Encyclopedia sponsored by the Society for Psychical Research in London. He has authored dozens of academic papers concerning reincarnation and related areas.

Here he presents some of his own original research examining published reincarnation cases in which children were able to remember identifiable past lives — and also recall the intermission period between lives. He notes that, on occasion, these memories contained veridical elements. He also found that there were distinct differences among eastern and western cultures. Reports from near-death experiences seem consistent with those of reincarnation cases.
