Fractal EpistemologywithTerry Marks-Tarlow

Books Mentioned In This Interview

Terry Marks-Tarlow, PhD, is a clinical psychologist. She is author of Mirrors of the Mind: Psychotherapist as Artist; Clinical Intuition in Psychotherapy; Awakening Clinical Intuition; Psyche’s Veil: Psychotherapy, Fractals, and Complexity; and Creativity Inside Out. She is coeditor of two anthologies – Simultaneity: Temporal Structures and Observer Perspectives; and A Fractal Epistemology for a Scientific Psychology.

Here she describes fractal mathematics as providing a new vision of the universe with broad implications for every field of science. In particular, she offers suggestions as to how fractal patterning could resolve the dilemma as to whether Jungian synchronicities can be viewed as truly “acausal.” She provides illustrations of the many ways in which fractal patterns can be found in nature and, especially, in the human body. She describes fractal boundaries as occuring between normal dimensions of existence.
