Rachel Harris, PhD, a psychologist, is author of Listening to Ayahuasca: New Hope for Depression, Addictions, PTSD, and Anxiety.

Here she describes how the ayahuasca plant is used as a religious sacrament in shamanistic ceremonies throughout several countries in the Amazon basin region. She describes her extensive research interviewing individuals who have used this medicine in North America. Her preliminary results suggest that ayahuasca has significant psychotherapeutic healing potential in many cases. She also describes the shamanistic world view associated with the spirit of the plant as a teacher.
